Oulu’s European Capital of Culture year 2026 events strive for sustainability even in clothing choices. Oulu Culture Foundation has signed a cooperation contract with local clothing rental service Mallaamo.

Mallaamo, founded in 2018, will provide clothes for the hosts, performers and city officials for Oulu2026 events.

According to CEO Essi Kumpuvaara, Mallaamo supports Finnish design brands and favors sustainable clothing consumption and ecological lifestyles. Along with the Oulu2026 cooperation, Mallaamo’s collection will expand to include men’s clothing.

“We follow the principles of sustainable development in our business, and we strive to be pioneers in responsibility in many ways. This work victory is personal for me as well, because I want to encourage people to wear sustainable and beautiful clothes made by Finnish designers without buying. Now we will get fantastic Finnish-designed clothes in the international spotlight”, Kumpuvaara rejoices.

The Oulu2026 Partnership Director Matleena Aarikallio explains that Mallaamo is a perfectly suitable partner for Oulu2026.

“We share the same values, so cooperation is very natural. This partnership is a good example of how Oulu2026 cooperates with different sectors and businesses of different sizes”, Aarikallio states.
