My Oulu: Lufthansa adds flights between Oulu and Munich for the upcoming winter season

The German airline Lufthansa has announced the addition of flights between Oulu and Munich for the upcoming winter season. The increased frequency will commence on October 30, with flights operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, providing service three times a week. This expansion marks a significant step for the region's tourism and business sectors.
”A direct, three-hour connection from Munich to Oulu during the winter season brings fresh positive momentum and growth to international tourism in the Oulu region. Germans have been one of the largest groups of international visitors to Oulu, and with the addition of this flight, we expect to see even more visitors from Germany. This new service also opens up further collaboration with German tour operators”, says Yrjötapio Kivisaari, CEO & President of Travel Marketing Oulu Ltd.
Since its launch, the Oulu–Munich route has played a crucial role in connecting Northern Finland to key destinations in Central Europe and beyond. The route has seen increasing demand from both business and leisure travelers, leading to further expansion of services.
”The success of our Oulu-Munich route since December 16th, 2023 has been remarkable, leading us to make the decision to operate year-round, including this summer. We are thrilled to announce an increase in flight frequency for Winter Schedule 2024–2025, to meet the needs of the market by expanding our operations and providing even more options for our customers and solidifying our position as a key player in Northern Finland”, said Patrick Borg Hedley, General Manager for Finland and the Baltic States for Lufthansa Group airlines, in a press release.
Petri Vuori, Senior Vice President, Sales and Route Development for Finavia, also welcomes the new flights for improving Oulu’s accessibility:
”The Oulu–Munich route has been a significant addition to Oulu Airport’s route offerings. The connection from Oulu to Central Europe has greatly enhanced the international accessibility of the region and all of Northern Finland. The upcoming additional weekly flights are very welcome news: they further improve accessibility and demonstrate the route’s popularity. Lufthansa Group has also significantly expanded its route offerings to Finland, flying to seven Finavia airports from Europe this year.”
